In one of the webinars that the Urgent Optimists regularly offers, I learned about MidJourney. And the moment I joined the open beta community run on Discord, I became so into it that I didn’t want to leave.
What’s it about?
MidJourney is an AI that generates art from your text prompts, a text-to-image tool. It helps you bring your words to life.
Check out these resources that discussed MidJourney in full detail:
Yes, that’s right. Text-to-image tools powered by AI are still hot off the plate right now. You should go and explore all others that are accessible to the general public.
Here are more resources that can help you know more about AI-generated art:
Would AI eclipse human creativity in the future?
From When AI Makes Art, Humans Supply the Creative Spark:
David Holz, the founder of Midjourney and previously CTO of Leap Motion, a 3D computer interface company, does not see his tool competing with artists. “We’re focused on exploring the essence of imagination,” he says. “Imagination is used for many things, sometimes art, but more often simply reflection and play. We wouldn’t call what we make AI-art, as the AI doesn’t make anything on its own. It has no will, no agency.”
Update (2025): Unfortunately, the MidJourney image links no longer exist, and I did not save a copy of the generated images. What’s left are the image prompts in the following sections.
For now, enjoy some of the images I generated in MidJourney, and the text prompts that I used:
