From Faced with soaring Ds and Fs, schools are ditching the old way of grading:
“Just because I did not answer a test question correctly today doesn’t mean I don’t have the capacity to learn it tomorrow and retake a test,” Yoshimoto-Towery said. “Equitable grading practices align with the understanding that as people we learn at different rates and in different ways and we need multiple opportunities to do so.”
We indeed learn at different rates.
I thank all my friends back in college who were patient enough to draw me diagrams just so I could catch up with all the abstracts we’ve been fed with.
And speaking of multiple opportunities, no one could really measure what you can do unless they’ve already worked with you.
That’s why I am so grateful for all the people who gave me the benefit of the doubt.
There’ve been so many people who changed the course of my life. And that’s just because they took a chance on me. So if you’re given the opportunity to affect other’s people lives for the better, you can, just by giving them the benefit of the doubt too.
