Reflections on becoming

Why being in a group matters

in

If you think you can be the best you in isolation, think again.

Most people who excel in their craft are the ones who involve themselves in groups that challenge their assumptions and drive their productivity.

I can remember how exciting it was to be with a team of thinkers. Just by spending time with them, I was able to think outside the box and dream of possibilities. And constantly receiving feedback from those who walk in the same creative path you’re treading helps you see gaps you’ve never noticed before.

I have to admit that constantly meeting with a team helped me push through during these uncertain and challenging times.

From The Creative Curve: How to Develop the Right Idea at the Right Time:

Studies show that building a community of people around us is essential to achieving world-class success. One study from the University of California analyzed the social networks of more than two thousand scientists and inventors. The research demonstrated that an innovator’s network could predict prominence, productivity, and even the length of their career.

So, if you want to be successful in your career or endeavors, never think twice about joining a group that also aims to be the best in your field. Always initiate to ask questions so that you’ll also learn from the best.

Just remember that your fear of asking questions might be the very thing that will keep you from growing.
