Reflections on becoming

Too much work can kill you

in

Yes, that’s right.

And according to the World Health Organization, working long hours is killing hundreds of thousands of people a year in a worsening trend that may accelerate further due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

But let’s be honest. If you are reading this and nodding your head about how long you’ve been spending hours in front of your computer screen “working,” maybe you need to ask yourself whether you are really working the whole time or not.

Yes, working from home is taking too much toll on our health. At the same time, it’s been eating away much of our sanity, trying to create a boundary between working hours and times for rest.

If you think that busyness means productivity, you might be doing it wrong.

From the book Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World:

“Busyness as Proxy for Productivity: In the absence of clear indicators of what it means to be productive and valuable in their jobs, many knowledge workers turn back toward an industrial indicator of productivity: doing lots of stuff in a visible manner.”

To put it simply, identifying clear-cut goals help you focus on what matters. It also helps you do away with distractions while producing valuable work. If you don’t know how to order things in terms of task prioritization, here’s how.

If you’ve been in the quest for finding the kind of rest that refreshes and revives, you’ll find this resource very helpful. It helped me so much that I can’t keep it to myself. So allow me to share it with you.

And yes, there’s still a kind of work that gives life. To learn more, check this out.
