Did you ever wonder how fast I could write a 200-word blog post?
I used to take hours before I could come up with something to write about. And it takes a lot of musing too. Mostly, my apprehensions about writing words on paper (or typing them on screens like this) are due to my fear of shipping lousy work.
What if no one would read my work?
But thanks to my grade-school teacher, who taught me that the only way to get better is to get into the habit of reading and writing in a feedback cycle, and Seth Godin’s affirmation on the practice, I learned the art of writing daily. Even if it means that it won’t be the best work.
But you know what?
There’d always be someone who notices your work and reads your work. Day by day, drip by drip. And what about those who don’t? They will see your growing portfolio. A daily blog of 700+ posts would be hard to miss, right?
Thinking about how fast I could write now, I’d say I’m way faster today than I used to be. Just because I stopped thinking out of fear. Instead, I am writing because I am in the habit of writing, the practice of shipping work daily.
And I hope you find the courage to start your practice too. Be it taking photos, cooking pastries, or starting a blog like me.
Here’s to our humble beginnings!
