A pocket of solitude (ice skating edition)

An hour at the skating rink gave me a pocket of solitude to think about the following:

  1. Just because others made it look easy doesn’t mean it’s easy the first time.   ✅ It helps to learn from their practice. ❌ Overconfidence doesn’t end well.
  2. Had to learn again how to walk (and glide and letting go of thoughts that keep you fearful)
  3. Letting the body feel and react to sensations (because learning how to learn doesn’t only require the head). The body doesn’t just have to know the physics; it also has to feel how the body responds to physics and then learn how to respond accordingly.
  4. Training wheels help one gain and develop confidence, but they become a crutch (or an excuse) to settle in the comfort zone.  At some point, I learned that I had to get used to falling down on the ice and learn how to get better at it.
