Congratulations to no one

1–2 minutes

I patted myself on my back, yelling “Congratulations” out into the open, as if celebrating with a team. Celebrations in remote work feel lonely and empty, even when the group chats are loud with celebratory notifications.

We were always crunching the hours to beat the deadline—shuffling between data gathering and writing, between data analysis and writing. Now, all the grind of completing the reports, the sleepless nights, and the back-and-forth online communication we did even late at night have finally come to an end, as we finish the final draft with less of a fight.

This work kept me awake for months. And now, for the first time in a while, I don’t have anything to check first thing in the morning.
