The high price of materialism

1–2 minutes

The video about “The High Price of Materialism” is one of the resource materials shared in my Learning for a Sustainable Future course.

It reminded me of how intrinsic values thwart materialistic urges by realigning your priorities outward instead of inward.

I’ve also joined the Bible Project’s Weekly Playlist on the Sermon on the Mount, and the idea of materialism reminded me of:

Matthew 6:19-21 NIV
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

I like the line, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also,” because it also talks about the priorities we choose in life. Materialism not only damages us and our relationships, but it also harms our planet.
