Cutting the wires

1–2 minutes

The daily loud whispers of “Check me out with what’s new and never miss out” were becoming too much to bear. I know they will end up with animal videos again like they always do.

The hours I spend scrolling for random content just eat away at my time and prevent me from doing work I value and care about.

So, one day, I decided to disable Facebook from my mobile phone.

Your code is too powerful to resist, but I’m waking up.

Enough!

You are not my master. I am not your tool.

You are the tool! And a tool is used to make things better, not waste human hours and attention.

So I won’t let you use me again, playing my strings like a marionette, moving to where your algorithms would take me.

I am in control of my time, and I am in control of myself.
