Everyday Stories, Lived

When did my outlook start to change?

in

I had the longest three weeks this quarter! And I think that the more you commit your focus into something, the more time feels like a construct. Time becomes defined by how we perceive and experience it, having day and night only reminders of when to rest and when to rise, not really about what one must do and can only do.

I have spent the same 24 hours before and felt it so short. But not this time of the year when I’m getting less sleep but more motion. My days have become longer and longer the more I do things and work on things, and meet new people.

Within the month, I realized I was getting used to my less-whiny self, especially about work-life balance. It could be a 20s thing (feel free to disagree) because being in school for 19 years is quite a long time when you have less room to explore. And finally, having the liberty to do things on your own feels liberating, and having work limit you again from getting to know what you really want feels frustrating, doesn’t it?

But now that I’m turning 30 (and I think I finally have an idea of what I want to be), I’m all about goals! And it doesn’t matter how much of my time is needed because what matters is I get it done and right.

Want to become this and that? Then it takes X to get there. At least that’s what life is like for me now, and I don’t care about sleepless nights anymore as long as I get the rest my body needs before my body breaks down.

When did my outlook start to change?

Was it when I got married that my priorities started to shift course?

Perhaps.

But I like the way it is now.

Should you get married first before you start to rethink your priorities? I don’t think so. Because I’ve seen unmarried people who have already sorted out their priorities like married people do. Meanwhile, some married couples still feel lost about what they really want to achieve or become in life.

You could even start now! At least prepare for 2024, like generally plan what you want it to look like. Then you can start doing the work you need to get there.
