Everyday Stories, Lived

Being the foreigner

in

Being in a foreign land is exciting, and it feels like all your senses are heightened because you start to hear things you’ve never heard before, like foreign languages.

But then, the more you listen in to the words you don’t understand, the more they become muted like white noise until you move on to paying your attention somewhere else.

Even the letters you don’t understand become meaningless scribbles and would only make sense (at least for some) when there’s an image or symbol around it.

I really enjoy being in a new country, but there’s really no place like the country you grew up in, and with your family.
