Reflections on becoming

Entering new spaces

in

My husband and I never explored a commercial district we usually visit for supplies, even before we married. When we did, we allowed ourselves to wander for some time, occasionally asking for directions (in person and via online maps). It’s even amazing how we did not hurry but made the most of our time together. The smiles, proximity, and the holding of hands. Even the silence and momentary distance are sweet.

I can still remember how the gush of the water from the fountain felt like, the warm light, and the familiarity of crowds.

To experience a new place you’ve never been in keeps your mind awake while being mindful of unfamiliar corners and spaces. Sharing it with someone you vow to spend your life forever is even more gratifying. Wearing a comfortable pair of shoes made our wandering even more enjoyable. Overall, it was fun, like a sweet treat to our brains, although my husband said his feet were sore when we got home.
