We thought that living life was just like following a set of instructions. And then, once done, a carefree life will be handed to you.
But no.
Everything is not easily handed over to you. There are times when you must go through the desert to get to your promised land–because it’s the only way that won’t take away from you the everlasting rewards that await you.
But what does a desert look like in life? And what should you do while going through the desert?
I can remember when I was out of work for almost five months (here’s how I went through it). And can you imagine how painful it feels to be out of work while your peers seem to have life all figured out? I even started to wonder if I have good working qualities that my prospective employers (or at least those I applied to) don’t seem to notice.
I can say it was a desert experience. After spending seven years specializing in my degree (which means I have subjected myself to immense pressure), I found myself in an uncomfortable career pause. The feeling was like walking in the dry land, with nothing moving in my career. Everything is at a standstill. It was as if what I only see is the great expanse of nothingness and how small I was in the middle of it.
Fortunately, I have learned from one of the sermons of Pastor Sumrall never to park while waiting (here’s what I did). And this cure for anxiety is what encouraged me to keep going.
