I’ve never produced any new episode on my podcast for almost half a year. Why? Because I needed to keep the lights on. However, I’ve already begun writing for the whole season (well, at least half of it), with bits of ideas here and there. If you can see my rough drafts, they looked like puzzles waiting for the other pieces to find their places.
I could say that within the six months of not publishing anything, I was able to collect more ideas and found the right tools that could help me become better.
As to what led me here, this is what I realized, which was inspired from Life is in the Transitions:
When facing a life transition, we begin to do art.
I guess it wasn’t really about the “beginning” for me. It was more of “going back to doing art.” And with more intent. I was like my childhood self again!
I can still remember staying up late imagining what my podcast would be like. My boyfriend probably had enough of my ideas that keep shifting and rearranging. But it really helps a lot to have someone push your work to become better. Indeed, bringing Life After School into the world wasn’t easy. I started with a cheap lavalier microphone (hoping I could record on the go), but has anyone told you about the magic of noise filters? I didn’t have any of those, but these limitations did not keep me from producing content. My friend used to tell me not to make the tool as an excuse not to create my art.
So that’s what I exactly did.
If you just listen to my first episode, it would pale in contrast to my latest iteration.
But I regret nothing.
If I didn’t begin just because I don’t have the right tools (yet) and even the right environment for recording, I wouldn’t get better.
Producing a whole season, ten episodes in total, resulted from continuous feedback from friends who were eager to help me become better. Thank you, yes you!
Why am I telling you all this? Because I’ll be posting Episode 02 of Season 02 next week, Wednesday (PHT). So I hope you go check it out!
