Nubian goat eating mango leaves

Our goat Dolly likes mango leaves

1–2 minutes

When I was in college, grandma gave me a goat, which I then named Dolly (inspired by the first-ever cloned sheep). However, my mama did not want to have anything to do with raising goats at home. So we did not bring Dolly with us. And Dolly ended up becoming dinner, grandma told me.

Then last year, when grandma told me she’d give me a goat, I couldn’t hide my excitement. Mama needed more convincing, of course. When that became a success, I already named the goat Dolly right before we had her in our home.

Two things I already know about goats are: they are stubborn, and that they are great climbers.

But what I soon discovered with our goat Dolly was that she acts like our dog Beauty sometimes. She greets you when you’re home by jumping, bleating, and often running towards you. And she likes mango leaves too that she ends climbing up our tree in the backyard. So when I am outside, I snap some twigs with leaves on them, and you can clearly see how Dolly is so happy about it. The mango tree? Not so much.

And Dolly is demanding like our cat Coco. She bleats every time she needs something, and mostly it’s because she’s hungry, she wants to be transferred, or she’s ready to call it a day.

I guess the good thing about Dolly is that she knows exactly what she wants.

If you’ve never had a goat before, I’d say you try having one.

Goats are fun to be with, and they are naturally social animals too. So having another pet around them wouldn’t be a problem.
