Everyday Stories, Lived

Letter no. 16

in

Dear reader from the future,

As I observed with intention people who are in leadership posts, I realized that it’s easy to demand a certain kind of leadership.

However, when you are in the position to lead, you’ll learn that it’s not easy to be there. That you need to have systems in place and always a step ahead of the rest.

Probably you’ve also heard some people tell you that it’s your right to demand a certain kind of leadership. Especially when you live in a bottom-up government, the urge for this kind of demand is strong — some ending up in blatant protests and revolt.

Others might also tell you about becoming the change instead.

And while some respond to this call by striving to remove the ruling authority, others respond by lifting other people up without bringing the government down.

As a follower of Jesus, the latter response is better (even if the world tells you that it is not).

Why?

Because it’s a way to acknowledge that no ruling power exists unless the Lord has instituted it. We’re taught to be subject to government.

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God [granted by His permission and sanction], and those which exist have been put in place by God.
Romans 13:1 AMP

With major transitions that are about to happen in our country, I hope that we remain reunited with God’s love.
