Decisions and uncertainties — COVID-19 edition

in

It’s one thing to live away from a big city and live life at a slower pace. Another if the pace becomes slower because of external constraints such as government-imposed lockdowns, closed establishments, limited transportation, and health precautionary measures.

Since last year, we were taken aback by the disruption COVID-19 brought. It forced us to change our lifestyles as well as how we conduct our daily affairs. Living smaller lives now, where we’re limited to make do with whatever access we can get, some of us became bolder in their moves.

What do I mean by that?

When we were still living at a pace we’re used to, we allowed ourselves to be just caught up with the routine. Once this global disruption happened, some people decided to get out of the routine and made new ones. Businesses started to spring up (amidst closures of some), while others decided to leave office jobs and started doing freelancing jobs.

And yes, the gig economy is not going anywhere at the moment. With the increase of interconnectivity across the globe, services will continue to be offered over seas.

If you are working in one, you might say that this kind of work lacks financial security and a path for career progression. But isn’t it what it is like to be during the pandemic? Where we now live our lives with greater uncertainty? Too far from the predictable lives we used to live just a year ago?

And maybe, that’s the reason why you are not afraid to shift these days. Because the bigger elephant in the room made you braver.
