Everyday Stories, Lived

We differ in mileage

in

We already know this. But our sense of worth shatters every time we compare ourselves with others who seem to have lives that are getting better and better. While in contrast, we remain where we are (or we think we do).

And here’s the danger of assuming we’re fighting the same struggles like everyone: we become blinded by our insecurities.

That instead of striving to get better, we become embittered by the insecurities that we cultivated little by little—the feeling of being taken advantage of by our circumstances.

Surprisingly, when insecurity grows, it never becomes our friend. It backstabs. And all the more, we get furious about how everybody else seems to get ahead. Getting more beautiful, getting richer, getting happier, and getting all the better things in life.

But if we acknowledge that we all differ in mileage, then instead of focusing on how people are getting ahead of us, we can now focus on doing the things that will make us better.
