Reflections on becoming

Disparity in educational access

Was there anything I’d like to change (if I could) while being in college?

Yes.

And that would be part of a research team while studying. I wish I had access to research teams before, access to resources that would enable me to improve how I conduct my research, and connections to research-affiliated instructors/professors.

We didn’t have that in college. Or maybe there was, but it was more like a private group, and I was too late to join the party (or never had inside connections to help me become part of it).

Access to the right tools and other enabling resources, such as journal subscriptions, would surely have broadened my worldview and helped me imagine better and think outside the box.

While the lack of resources and an enabling environment was the box I was forced to work in, I can’t help but notice how students from affluent families get better education because they can afford better education.

While poverty dictates what access we can afford now, it doesn’t have a final say unless we let it.
