Reflections on becoming

The gradual normalization of wrongdoing

in

If only right and wrong, good and evil, were color-coded, we could see clearly which way to go and what not to do if we desire doing good.

But wrong and evil often seem good (at first) until you are hooked and trapped. Then, you are either already knee-deep in them before you realize you’re doing wrong, or you’re so desensitized to evil that you no longer see it as evil but as good.

Big evils often start small and unnoticed—even the little nudges of guilt can be dismissed. Until you have hardened your heart so much that doing wrong becomes normal and accepted—”It’s just how we do things around here.

Those who call out evil for what it is are shunned in public and crucified for doing what is good. Meanwhile, those with twisted minds have become so convinced of their truth that they no longer recognize how corrupted they’ve already become. Imagine when these people hold power!

And so begins a dangerous cycle of moral decay from the gradual normalization of wrongdoing.
