Everyday Stories, Lived

Letter no. 40

in

Dear reader from the future,

Can you remember a world where it is still bearable to go outside on a sunny day?

I can only look back to how cool afternoons were when I was five, the trees shading our house from the tolerable outdoor heat. I can recall the memories in tinted blues and greens and joyous mundane moments from the eyes of a child.

Two decades into the future, while living in the metro, I could only think about the extreme urban heat, which becomes hotter every year. And it’s not just in Southeast Asia; temperature rises are happening globally, mainly attributed to human-induced climate change.

And I am living in a world in which there exist global powers that still fuel climate change denial, seeding doubt about its consequences and delaying climate action.

So, I hope you already live in a world with a climate-action consensus.

Your letter writer from the past,
Jessa
