While healthy, we stretch ourselves and test where the limits are. And when our bodies succumb to the strain, screaming for rest, we feel guilty about neglecting the first signs of fatigue.
As we do our daily routines, we don’t think so much about how sickness limits us from doing things that matter to us. We often need to appreciate its absence as well as value and maintain good health.
Only when we become sick do we realize it’s not something we’d like to have. I wish I’d taken that much-needed rest. Because sickness weighs us mentally and physically, making even the simplest tasks seem arduous.
We tell ourselves, “If I get well, I will surely take breaks and give myself sleep.” But once we recover, we often take our newfound health for granted again because the sickness we went through doesn’t feel like an immediate concern anymore. So we overlook the value of good health (again) until it gets compromised (again).
