We used to tell our friends that we’d keep in touch with them even after we moved on to our different careers.
We tell stories about how we’d attend one another’s weddings, be godparents to each other’s children, and bond with our families.
But add a decade or even a half, and like unvisited paths, the connections we built, even the ones we dreamt of building, evaporate into memories and untold stories.
We become like ants that travel a path less and less, the chemical trail slowly fading away. And so we’re only left to think about the friendships that once made us dream about our futures. And now that we are here, we may haven’t said any goodbyes to our friends, but the growing distance (or even the lack of will to reconnect) is enough to make it official.
