We felt limited to gathering around with families and friends for three Christmas seasons.
But this year is different.
This year felt like we’re finally free, with some enjoying the liberty of optional mask-wearing while others remained cautious by wearing one.
And what seemed to be endless family arguments every gathering, this year is unwrapped with a more pleasant gift: love and unity.
What used to matter, self-preservation, becomes less important than seeing a loved-one feel joy with your generosity.
Everyone seemed more open for cooperation too.
Perhaps this is what they call “distance makes the heart grow fonder” and “you’ll never know how to deeply appreciate what you have until it’s gone.”
COVID-19 separated us in many ways but united us in other forms.
