Reflections on becoming

Challenging the status quo

in

One afternoon, I was waiting for a taxi on a busy street. It was so busy that it gave me the illusion of ‘taxi abundance’ in the area. And as minutes came and went, I started to feel the tension between challenging the status quo (staying where I am because I’ve already spent time doing the same thing and I don’t want to waste my already wasted time) and moving on to the next location.

Isn’t it easy to just stay where we are right now?

However, I realized that when opportunities seem scarce from where you are right now, perhaps you need to change location (or perspective).

And think about opportunity cost.

Yes, we can’t redeem what we’ve already spent, like our lost time. But we can keep ourselves from losing more if we do something about it now.

So I decided it was time to move to another location I thought was busier than the street I was already in. But I must walk for a few minutes under the harsh heat to get there.

Yet, simply being on the move made me feel good, and it even felt that my chances of getting a taxi were high just because I did not remain where I was.

Knowing when to quit (and when to press ahead) might be what you need right now.

And even today, I still hold the same principle I learned from Pastor Sumrall, which I always find true time and time again: never park while waiting.
