Reflections on becoming

We used to be young then, and we didn’t bother

in

But when the rain first began to fall, we didn’t see the bigger picture. We didn’t even want to. The bigger picture was for our parents to worry about. We were sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, and focused on more exciting things, like how many days were left before school let out. And Spring Formal and our dresses.

The Last Boy and Girl in the World

How time flies, I’m almost 30!

Ah, sweet years, although the people who have come before me tell me that I am still young. Younger than they are, perhaps?

But nonetheless, here’s what I learned about maturity: maturity is a constant decision.

Have you heard about the saying how we all have that kid inside us?

And why is it that we think immaturity is linked with impulsive decisions?

Well, can you still remember being a teenager? If so, sure there are things you regret doing because why? You never thought it through. Live in the moment, they say, and you did.

There are always consequences, yes?

If you’re reading this and you’re still in your teens, this I tell you:

What you do now affects how your tomorrow becomes.

I must’ve learned it from people who helped me become who I am today. And it helped me a lot, so I am passing it on to you.

Do not make your age an excuse not to see the bigger picture. If you think you still lack imagination, spending time with people who have been there done that would greatly help you navigate your own path.

And of course, I’d like you to meet Jesus, who is still helping me out today become a better me.
