How many times did some of us tell ourselves, “Back to work now.” But then, moments later, we find ourselves down the bottomless pit of our social media feeds?
What is it in these endless and random chatters that we keep coming back to swipe refresh?
Is it affirmation?
Is it validation?
Or do we want to keep checking about who’s getting better in life and assess ourselves against an invisible scale?
Better is always relative to our environment, yes? And the people behind our screens know what keeps us getting hooked.
We can get hooked on systems that want us to get hooked, on platforms that use our effort as their product, our emotions as fodder for their next milestone.
