I used to dream about getting published, and what was once unimaginable now became routine.
When I was in grade school, I sought to learn how to write pieces that people would read. In high school, I dreamed about becoming an author and finding a publisher willing to expand my reach. However, I didn’t have the network at the time, so I didn’t know where to start.
In undergrad, I learned about self-publishing through writing stories online and blogging. In grad school, I continued to self-publish my work online and dreamed about self-publishing an eBook. When I became a working professional, specifically a researcher, I began writing academic papers and eventually had them published (you can access them here).
While “getting published” has taken many forms as my definition evolved through time, I’d like to think that I have finally arrived at where I wanted to be, a published author.
Since publishing content is now decentralized, gatekeepers can’t be an excuse anymore for why we can’t write something and get it out there. As Seth Godin wrote:
Write a book because you can and because it might make a difference.
Meanwhile, you can download here a free ebook I wrote in 2021.
I hope to complete another one before the end of this year.
P.S.: Thanks to my dear friend Amira, who keeps pushing me to create tangible mementos. She’s a book editor and a literature whiz. You can check out her blog here.
