It was interesting to see how my age group is so dissatisfied with the current state of affairs. When will we ever break free from the broken systems and shifting form of poverty?
What’s even more interesting is that while watching documentaries aired 20 years ago, working people from that era were also expressing their dissatisfaction with the state of things in our country. Seems like poverty was holding the country by the neck then, and even today, working people still seek a better life by leaving the country. It only means that this cycle isn’t new at all. Some things never change.
While I was considering how uptight things are getting, especially with finding work (because becoming an employee is the worldview I was raised in), I was starting to think that there’s something wrong with me. Again, I was trying to fit myself into a box that could no longer contain me.
But, of course, people would say it’s not a “you” problem, but a “system” problem.
That realization shifted something for me. Getting the job done on my computer, even working for someone else from a completely different time zone, still accomplishing a lot and getting paid with a more powerful currency, liberated me from spatial constraints. Perhaps this is how we break free.
However, I realized that it’s not just a powerful currency that can make life more bearable. I guess what attracts working people like me to go out of the country is “better systems” and “taxes that are used for the betterment of the people the government seeks to serve.”
Tax after tax without tangible benefits is squeezing the life out of ordinary people like me. And like the people from 20 years ago, we still struggle to break free.
