Dear reader from the future,
Writing this as a 30-year-old (oh how I really like being 30), I realized how stubborn and even prideful I was in my 20s. I thought that ideals were enough to change the part of my world, graduating from one reality (academe) to another (workplace). I was too hot to make a change and was easily frustrated by realities that have long existed and thrived (that’s why they became the status quo), which blinded me from really learning from those that came before.
If there’s something I want to change in my 20s, it would probably be doing away with youthful arrogance and embracing learning from realities with a humble heart.
I’d like to think submitting ourselves to realities is a wisdom that spans through the ages. We can’t change the part of our world with ignorance. So, if you are reading this in your 20s, take heed.
Your letter writer from the past,
Jessa
