Dear reader from the future,
Can you imagine a place filled with life-sized puppets to imitate a place filled with people?
I just turned 30 and am already at a point in my life where I am considering raising my own family. I have even started to miss the children my husband and I still hope for.
So, while reading an article on how Ichinono tried to ease loneliness in their aging Japanese village by installing life-sized puppets to “recreate a bustling community,” it made me think about a future where a community slowly dies because nobody wants to be in it anymore.
Since college, I have been a transient. I have always thought about “the great out there,” which is always out of reach from my city home. I thought opportunities were always better in the metro. Now that I am far from family, I mostly dream about going home—and when I did, I would remember why I left.
Maybe the youth from the village of Ichinono thought the same way I did decades ago. It would take a lot of convincing, such as more opportunities and better pay for the kind of work we trained for, which would eventually take us back home.

How about you? Have you been living far away from the place where you were born? What made you decide to relocate?
