Reflections on becoming

From many hobbies to one

in

As much as I want to become better at so many things at the same time, I can’t seem to find the enthusiasm to do so many things like I used to have when I was younger (like creating board games, crocheting, and making keychains from beads).

Now, I feel more intentional at consistently banging at one nail until I drive it in and deep. And this nail, at the moment, is writing.

Writing for me comes in three forms:

Daily blogging. I’ve been doing this daily for 18 days straight now! I guess I finally broke out from a year-long hiatus since I married. Perhaps I’ve finally found the rhythm of how to blog daily on top of my work (and extra job) and being a spouse.

Research writing. Being a researcher also means getting published. And not just published but cited. Right now, I’m writing a paper on agrivoltaics and I’m quite happy with my pace. But you know, I’ve been struggling about what to really write about, so wherever I am today was a fruit of tireless reading and thinking (and getting frustrated and crazy in between).

Journaling. I’ve been keeping a daily journal for a year now, and the practice has been comforting for me in a way that I push myself to recall the highlights of my day and, at the same time, therapeutic because I get to write all these thoughts by hand using my now favorite pen.

Okay, I have to add reading to the list, too. Because how can one write about so many things without reading, right? Shout out to all my friends at Another Book Club, who share awesome book recommendations and serve as accountability partners to our reading habit! 🎉
