The gift of getting quiet

in

When was the last time you gave thoughts some space to enter your mind?

I don’t know about you, but most of the time, I make sure that there is music playing in the background at home and that my headphones are ready and fully charged when I go out to listen to podcasts while traveling.

Even in bed, I carry my ebook reader to read a few pages before I sleep.

I can’t even not check my devices for more than an hour (except when I am in the flow with work, which is seldom). It’s as if my fingers always want the comfort of having something to hold and my eyes to have something vibrant to watch—even when there’s no notification or activity that I have to check on my phone!

Do you even have moments when you just tap your phone awake to browse between notifications, contemplating what you really want to do with your phone?

That constant desire to be occupied feels like suffocating at times, and I wonder how I will ever regain the control I used to enjoy before I had access to the internet and mobile phones.

But what I have not told you yet is that there are times when I’m traveling to the office and choose to disconnect and be free from distractions—give myself a sense of quietness—just the noise from the ordinary people, the cars passing by, the smell of trees, the gentle touch of the wind, the falling leaves, the shade, and the sun.

In these moments, I feel wide awake and can hear my thoughts clearly just because I gave them the space to finally enter my mind.
