Today, I have put into practice what I wrote in my previous blog.
How?
I did seven major tasks for today, with reading a book sometime in the afternoon, and they are as follows:
- Did a grocery run.
- Made three tubs of mango float.
- I spent time with my niece while we played with our cats, dog, and goats; I listened to her explain about the cat house she created from a carton box.
- Did my share of grounding 4.5kg of pork by hand (with a new chopping knife) within three hours. There were just two of us.
- Skewered some marinated pork for barbeque.
- Deveined shrimps.
- I played with a one-year-old for about 30 minutes.
And it’s incredible how I did all these things in one day, while I can spend the same hours working in front of the computer.
In all the moments I went through today, I was in the zone and away from my mobile phone, which felt refreshing. I also had the opportunity to be in the moment and spend time with people as determined to finish the work as I do. I even learned a thing or two about hard work and paying attention.
What’s even more fascinating is that you can push yourself to work hard as long as you are motivated to become a blessing to another person. Being other-focused in doing work encourages us to do more, knowing that what we do affects other people in a good way.
This must be passion and purpose at work.
