Everyday Stories, Lived

Today’s a good day to wrap up 2023

in

Tomorrow would be the start of December 2023, but my mind is already set on 2024.

Why?

Because I live my life almost like this: I spend so much time thinking about the future, and when that future becomes today, my mind runs on autopilot (based on the decisions I already made), but realigning depending on what’s happening in real-time.

Most likely, the things I do today have already gone through considerations in my head: in my waking hours or even sleep.

So, if you still haven’t considered what you want to accomplish next year, now’s the time to start thinking about it. You need to be proactive in shaping your life. And it starts with thinking about what you want to become! Because I learned, through the years, that imagination helps us be more adaptive to whatever is to come. And the lack of imagination frightens us about things we are yet to get familiar with.

But you know what, knowing what you want to achieve next year makes it easy for you to say yes and no to things. And in this way, you’ll be able to focus more on what you value than simply waste away an opportunity. December is a great opportunity to start your goal-setting, if you are yet to get into the habit.

Simply writing your goals on paper or on your mobile device sets the tone for what you’re expecting in the coming year.

As for me, I’ve already done preliminary goal-setting, but I have yet to refine what I want to achieve next year. As the saying goes, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

If life is a board game, like chess, I’d like to think I’ve already made my first move for 2024. What remains is for me to patiently wait for the reaction so I can decide on my next move.
