If you want “free and open access to photovoltaic (PV) electricity generation potential for different technologies and configurations,” this resource is for you.
When you click on the link, you will be redirected to the Photovoltaic Geographical Information System (PVGIS) webpage and get access to three tools:
- Photovoltaic performance – Electricity produced per year by a PV system performance for any location.
- Solar radiation – Time series of hourly, daily or monthly values of solar radiation and PV performance.
- Typical meteorological year – Hourly data set of nine climatic variables over a “typical” year, formatted for building energy calculation tools.
By indicating the address or latitude/longitude of your study area, you can download data with varying temporal resolutions (monthly, daily, hourly) into CSV or JSON format.
“PVGIS provides information on solar radiation and photovoltaic system performance for any location in Europe and Africa, as well as a large part of Asia and America.”
As an energy researcher, I find this resource very helpful and handy because, aside from its ease of access, there’s no registration needed! So, you can use it for FREE!
