Reflections on becoming

Leaving the matrix

in

After watching The Matrix films, I began to reflect on what used to be the greatest question I asked myself: “Do I have to conform to societal norms and expectations.”

While I strived to go against the grain and pursued things not because I was supposed to but because I wanted to, I realized that it’s way easier to just conform. To travel the road less traveled, at least from where I began, wasn’t a walk in the park. It required hours of deliberate effort to break walls and carve new roads. But everything eventually paid off once I was ready for the opportunities ahead.

While I was expected to be employed in an 8-5 job because that’s what a low-middle income woman from a small city should be in, I sought unconventional work arrangements (which eventually became common post-pandemic). While I was expected to be employed in one job, relying mainly on a single source of income, I sought various income streams, eventually converging into everything I like to work on.

Sometimes, questioning the status quo and breaking free from societal constraints or limitations doesn’t have to be the end. It could be the beginning of your self-discovery towards your untapped potential.
