Reflections on becoming

Human evil

in

Watching the Upload TV series was fascinating, where humans can upload their consciousness onto the internet and live forever (perhaps as long as there is internet). Imagine a digital afterlife, seeing dead people in real life still alive digitally. You’re in a long-distance relationship with them (because you can’t be with them in person but can still interact with them through VR and haptic suits).

Upload also showed what the world looks like when 3D printed food is the norm (and real food a luxury), self-driving cars (although commute still exists for the masses), hyperloop, and double-deck aircraft seating as the future of the economy class. These kinds of futures reminded me of another TV series, The Future Of, which you might like to watch.

It may seem nice to think that our consciousness could live on forever even digitally. But then, when humans would live on forever, this raises the question about human evil and how it perpetuates even in the digital afterlife.

Something I’ve learned from futures thinking is that evil still finds its way to corrupt what we meant for good. However, it shouldn’t deter us from doing what is good.

And no matter where we live, we can’t seem to escape this human condition, a feeling of alienation and belonging somewhere else but here. However, Jesus can save us from destroying ourselves and give us eternal life.
