Reflections on becoming

Too absorbed by our storylines

in

When all we hear is the sound of our voices in our heads, we may find it challenging to relate with others, especially when we are too absorbed by our storylines to bother about other people. Often, the thoughts in our heads get so overwhelming that we can’t go past ourselves and see others, connect with them, and meet them where they are.

We also tell ourselves stories that might not be true, such as “You can’t possibly do it,” but we tell ourselves anyway. Because it’s comfortable to do nothing and stay the same than explore the edges of the box and find something new (“And probably dangerous,” say the voice inside our heads).

Sometimes, I even feel drowning in my thoughts, which keeps me from listening to other voices and perspectives.

But perhaps, to be able to hear others, we need to learn to silence our narratives and just listen.
