Gaming allows us to immerse ourselves in new experiences and challenges (with less cost to none) and disconnect from real-life obligations by offering control, achievement, and temporary escape from our responsibilities.
But if we consistently spend our waking hours playing computer games, like everything done in excess, it could result in problems like:
1. Neglect of responsibilities
where you’d rather spend most of your time in front of your computer screen, leveling up and achieving goals that don’t mean anything when you’re unplugged instead of connecting to real people with whom you should be fostering and strengthening relationships.
2. Relationship strains
because you don’t spend as much time with the people you should be spending time with, your spouse, family, and friends might feel estranged from you.
3. Reduced personal growth
although gaming benefit one’s cognitive abilities, allowing your life to revolve around gaming alone limits you from seeking opportunities for personal growth that adds real and lasting value to you and your career and from exploring meaningful activities that promote well-being.
