There was a woman who grew up in the working class.
They didn’t have much back then, but she learned at an early age the value of saving when her neighbor encouraged her to open a bank account while she was still in grade school. Even with the little she has, she developed the habit of saving, and little did she know, her savings ended up becoming thousands when she graduated college. She learned the value of taking small steps to reach a goal.
She also doesn’t see the same way most of us see things.
When she sees something, she sees how she can make money out of it. She has an entrepreneurial vibe.
Since grade school, she engaged in commerce until she developed skills like taking risks and hard work.
Then, she met a man who was as resourceful as she was, and they got married. While he’s good at ideation, she’s good at making them happen, which made them a great team.
Sure, they had their ups and down. But because of their persistence in doing quality work, they found themselves ready for an opportunity.
So, what should we learn from their story?
Hard work should be something we undertake daily, and at the same time strive to produce the quality work we’d be proud to own. Because when opportunities come along our way, we’d be ready for them. Once we take these chances, we might find a gold mine of even more opportunities just because we were prepared initially.
If we only do mediocre work, telling ourselves, “What’s the point? I’ll be the same as I was before,” then we have already self-imposed a limit we wouldn’t be able to surmount unless we decide to. And when opportunities present themselves right in front of us, we won’t be ready for it, so it would become a missed opportunity we’ll keep guessing when it will return.
But if we commit ourselves to the daily pursuit of quality work, we create an environment where success and growth are possible. There wouldn’t be missed opportunities anymore, only possibilities.
