We desire to be accepted, understood, and recognized by our inner and immediate circles to gain a sense of belongingness. And receiving external validation from them also changes the way we perceive ourselves.
Meanwhile, some value external validation so much that they feel their worth depends on how others think about them. And because they want to validate their existence based on other people’s opinions, they become slaves to external validation and lose their sense of self.
Access to social media makes it easier for us to accept the pressure of conforming and seeking validation from others. All we want is to feel connected with others, right? But if we allow others’ opinions to define who we should be, we risk losing ourselves.
