Reflections on becoming

Your mind is a garden

in

You already understand that what you sow, we reap. The same is true with whatever thoughts you plant in your mind. Good thoughts, bad thoughts, whichever of them you cultivate grows.

Hence, Proverbs 4:23 (NASB1995) reminds us to:

Watch over your heart with all diligence,
For from it flow the springs of life.

because where you put your being, there will you head also.

But if you trust God that He will lift you out of your circumstances, this also means that you are willing to extend your hand to be helped. And trusting God to give you the help you need gives your mind peace, as in Isaiah 26:3-4 (ESV):

3 You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you.
4 Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord  God is an everlasting rock.

So, if your mind is a garden, be careful with what kind of thoughts you plant in it. Therefore, as you start your day, it’s important to think about things that enable and encourage, as it sets the tone of your day. As it says in Philippians 4:4-9 (NASB1995):

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!
5 Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near.
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.
9 The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
