Reflections on becoming

Road to Zerophoria: Journal entry from the future #6

in

I am spending 10 days in the future, and this is what my daily life like in the year 2033, where zero-waste laws are strictly enforced, and no one comes to pick up the trash anymore.

You can read more about this imagined future scenario here.

“Trade-in” is the purchasing scheme we have used since the country’s zero-waste laws were strongly implemented. So if you want to upgrade your device, you can trade it in at a local store near you and get discounts for your new purchase.

For consumables like milk, you need to become a member of a local milk producer and get milk delivered to your doorstep. You also need to pay a one-time payment for each glass bottle you use for your order. Then, for the next delivery, you can get a new milk bottle in exchange for the empty glass bottle you had before.

You can also go to refiller stations for other consumables like shampoos, soap, and detergents on demand. But becoming a member credits you points which you can convert to cash on your next purchase. You also need to pay a one-time payment for each glass bottle you use, which you can bring on your next purchase.

For broken glass bottles, no need to fuss! These stations also offer services to repurpose them for free.

The text prompt used to generate this image is “refiller station for shampoo, soap, detergent. cinematic. realistic.”
