Everyday Stories, Lived

Road to Zerophoria: Journal entry from the future #1

in

I am spending 10 days in the future, and this is what my daily life like in the year 2033, where zero-waste laws are strictly enforced, and no one comes to pick up the trash anymore.

You can read more about this imagined future scenario here.

Today, I’m waiting for my food delivery because I’ve been craving tacos. But unlike ten years ago when stores put the food you order into various disposables, they now use the same “smart pack” containers that can accommodate all food types. After using these “smart packs,” you have to return them the next time you order food online.

I can still remember the guilt I used to feel before, ten years ago, throwing cartons and plastic utensils after enjoying my meal. (So much for being a sustainable living advocate.) But I’m glad that I don’t have to feel that way any longer because the system made it easier for me to live out the kind of sustainable living I want to achieve.
