Unwelcome news

in

Unwelcome news feels like a white noise humming and humming, but you’re barely getting any sense out of it, zoning out.

What were you saying?

But your body seems to understand that it wrenches your insides, trying to process it all but can’t. It’s like your rational being is running away from your body, hiding and cowering away.

So you breathe in and out more than you would, striving to give your mind a pause as it whirs and whirs, drowning in its noise.

What was it again?

Your mind, in shock, tries to grasp reality as it sinks in little by little.

Breathe in, out, pause.

And as the information becomes like a broken record in your head, its familiarity breeds calm. What started as unwelcome becomes a matter of fact, so your rational brain begins to work as it should.
