Reflections on becoming

Decluttering activities

in

Often, we overestimate ourselves and our capacities to do work.

Just because our future selves are still far off doesn’t mean we can become superheroes overnight (Except when you’re bitten by a spider? Well, even then, you still have to explore what you can do to become Spiderman, right?).

Speaking of biting…

Biting off more than we can chew could be based on one or more of the following reasons:

  • We don’t consider our future self the same as our present self, like they’re two separate entities. I might not be able to do it now, but perhaps my future self can?
  • We lost track of all our future commitments (a planner or a calendar of activities could help!)
  • We forget that we’re humans and humans need sleep to perform better

So as we close another year and welcome a new one, here’s a list of ways you can create value without putting too much on your plate.

If you’ve already mastered the art of decluttering, like decluttering relationships and stuff, it’s time to extend that skill to your activities too.

Before binge-watching that next season of your favorite series, perhaps you need to ask yourself what you want to achieve in this lifetime.

No wonder why people great at work spend less on time-wasting activities. They simply understand the power of doing less and becoming better at what they choose to do.

I hope this list of how to create value from Great at Work: How Top Performers Do Less, Work Better, and Achieve More by Morten T. Hansen.

Five ways on how to create value by Morten T. Hansen

So if you consider reading this blog daily a waste of time, I’m okay with you saying goodbye as long as it helps you become a better you.

But I’d be glad if you stayed too.
