Doing research and what it means to create an impact

in

Working behind desks and lit screens feels productive, mainly when you’ve accomplished the tasks you’ve set for the day.

And when the research project is finally done, and the results are public, what comes after for a researcher?

What does a researcher do anyway?

Being one, I’d say that a researcher looks for answers to questions only a few people in a particular niche are asking. And these questions often shape the future ten years from now, even later or earlier.

But sometimes, results from ones research would just be parked on someone’s table, never to be heard of again. Unless we do something about the results, like applying them to a community who might benefit from them.

If that’s the case, it’s never enough to answer just any question that comes to mind.

As a researcher, it might be better if we answer the questions that directly and positively impact other people, even one step at a time.

That way, we can really say that yes, our research created an impact that could last for the generations to come.
