Reflections on becoming

Why do you download an app?

in

When you go to the app store, you are there for various reasons:

  • You want to download a specific app.
  • You want to explore new apps under a particular category.
  • It’s getting late, and you don’t want to sleep yet, so you want to do something with your time, and downloading an app at the moment sounds like fun.

And where do you first look when deciding which app to download?

The thumbnail? The sample photos/videos? The reviews? Do you check if the app is in the editor’s choice list? Do you validate your choice based on how many people have downloaded it? Are the reviews good?

Often, my eyes look at the number of downloads subconsciously. How can emerging apps contest those who have already dominated the category? Usually, the number of downloads signals that an app is worth your time.

Like my housemate said earlier, “I trust the numbers.”
