As I finish the week (hey, today marks my second week in a new research project), I’m amazed by how we could adapt to a new environment and create new ways of doing things (more like building a new routine).
And I’m even more amazed that we could pull off writing a conference paper in two weeks!
The hard work of my colleagues doing the simulation runs for months finally paid off (we hope to find favor from you, Reviewer 2)!
And as we willingly committed to unpaid overtime (We find joy in doing research work, okay?), I realized that we work like we’re still the same graduate students we used to be.
When I was young, watching people on television spend time in their laboratory doing research seemed very noble to me. It felt like they are helping change the world to become a better place to live.
And now that I am here, I wonder, “Am I helping the part of my world become a better place?”
This question goes to all of us who are spending our lives doing research. And perhaps, we’re still ahead of our time, yearning for the kind of future we want to be in someday.
I want to help shape that kind of future anyway.
